Gili Lankanfushi is a tiny coral island in a sparkling lagoon, with jetties threading across the water out to spacious villas. Everywhere you look, marine life abounds - and the gleaming waters beckon.
It is 6 nautical miles or a twenty-minute speedboat ride from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport to Gili Lankanfushi. Or if you prefer, the resort is easily accessible by a scenic seaplane flight.
En route, you will pass a string of pearl islands, each surrounded by a turquoise lagoon. During this short journey, guests are invited to remove their shoes as they prepare to enjoy the island lifestyle of No News - No Shoes. The resort is set on the lush tropical island of Lankanfushi, in Kaafu Atoll, which is one of 19 atolls in the Maldives.
The forty-four stilted accommodations of Gili Lankanfushi reflect a small resort concept that caters to guests' individual desires. Villas are crafted in a traditional style from natural recycled materials. Villas feature rooftop and over-water sundecks, open-air bathrooms, sumptuous daybeds, and a personal entertainment centre. For ultimate privacy, seven Crusoe Residences are surrounded by water and only accessible by personal boat. Come ashore for some indulgent dining and equally great wines or a romantic moonlit dinner delivered right to your villa. Be sure to leave your villa often enough to check out the vibrant activities that are available to you on island and indulge in some personal time at the spa to reward yourself for all your "hard work". It is all possible at Gili Lankanfushi.
Gili Lankanfushi was, up to July 01, 2012, known as Soneva Gili, but has changed its name due to a management transfer to HPL Hotels & Resorts. Gili Lankanfushi marks the 12th property to the portfolio of HPL Hotels & Resorts, other brands and properties including Hard Rock Hotels, Concorde Hotels, The Boutique Collection, as well as Four Seasons at Kuda Huraa and at Landaa Giraavaru in the Maldives.
The management team, service team, villas, and facilities at Gili Lankanfushi remain unchanged, continuing the high quality of accommodation, dining and service standards known and famous from Soneva Gili. Gili Lankanfushi has furthermore maintained its focus on preserving the environment and continues supporting charitable projects in the area.
Dining at Gili Lankanfushi

At Gili Lankanfushi, open air dining can be romantic, private and unique. The lunch buffet at the bar is a very casual experience, where you can create your own menu from the wide selection of fresh salad leaves from the garden, sushi, Mederranean delicacies, daily catch of fish, imported meats and local spices and herbs. Wine Cellar & Underground Chocolate Cave Situated between the restaurant and the garden is the gourmet cellar, initially visible by the softly undulating wood-shingled roofline. Entering through a doorway sculptured from copper sheeting and deco-like carved wood embellishment, a softly lit glass staircase descends beneath ground level to the cavernous cellar. Lined with a softly dappled satiny-smooth stucco plaster finish, recessed free-form wine racks display more than 300 labels. Running almost the entire length of the cellar is a six meter (twenty foot) driftwood tree trunk, slotted with eight individual glass table tops and personal wine glass shelves. Designed to seat just eight epicure guests, the gourmet cellar hosts regular degustation dinners consisting of seven tasty courses paired with a wine for each course. Menus and wines vary at each dinner and are introduced by Gili Lankanfushi's resident sommelier. Dinners commence at 8pm and linger over two hours. Perfect for the true gourmet. Wine tasting is scheduled from 6pm, and typically includes several wines ranging from Champagne, through whites and reds, and finishing with dessert wine. They are designed to introduce guests to vintages from the old and new worlds. There's also the opportunity to discover handmade chocolates as well as artisanal cheese and cold cuts from the deli room.
The Over Water Grill serves the freshest seafood and choice cuts of steak, lamb, duck and pork, cooked on a lava stone grill. Simply name your choice, pick your cut and request a precise cooking time. Each cut is served with your preferred sauce – garlic, mint, chilli, butter, peppercorn, truffle, saffron, cognac – as well as side dishes, vegetables and herbs, all freshly picked from the resort's very own organic garden.

Dine in the Dark Remove one sense and the others are heightened. That is the intriguing theory behind the blindfolded dining experience. It begins at your villa, where you are picked up by buggy, blindfolded and taken to a secret destination to enjoy a gourmet dinner while blindfolded. Flavors dance across the tongue to dazzle your taste buds. Every mouthful is served by the waiters so you'll never know if your fellow diners are messy eaters!
No News - No Shoes
The island is very casual and wants you to be able to put your bare feet up. The all year round, warm climate and comfortable temperature in the tropical climate require only light and natural clothing and textiles such as cotton, linen or silk. A light jacket might be suitable for the drier evenings of the winter months when temperatures can go as low as 23 - 24 degrees.
The resort and climate encourage casual wear and comfortable clothing. Return guests often spend the week in polo shirts and shorts or a light summer dress or sarong. The Island also offers laundry service. However, no dry cleaning facility is available so we would recommend that you bring washable items.
The resort has a 'no shoes' philosophy, (No News - No Shoes) so you will not need to wear shoes at any time during your visit except to workout in the gym or play tennis. Elegant or heeled shoes are not required and rather unpractical for strolling on the beach.
